Meenakshi Madhur comments : The story makes poignant points to a child reader as well as to an adult reading the story. However the story could have easily done without portraying Nancy's mother as a heartless woman. The message to an adult reader which the story puts across to all parents of modern times is that we need to provide our children not only with toys but also opportunities to mix and play with other kids. It is very common these days for parents to keep their children entertained with electronic toys within the four walls of their home and put no or minimal effort in helping their chilldren form some human friends. Gone are the days when we as children simply had to step out of our apartments to make friends and play with neighbouring kids until our mothers yelled to us at least 10 times to come back home for dinner !
