Neelam comments :
Beautiful written article. I remember when I had worn saree the first time in my class 10 farewell party. I felt a different person in me. You should share your picture in that saree with us. :)

Sunny,
You have given Saree the status it deserves. Its the most wonderful article that has affected me to an extent that I am rushing to my closet to try out my blouses :)

Meenakshi Madhur comments :
Very interesting, Sunny ! And yes...as Neelam suggested we would love to see a picture of you draped in one.
Reminded me of my days when I first slipped into them....but mine was a cotton route rather than silken as I used to be a big fan of those fascinating and colorful cotton sarees of Kolkatta! One of the several reasons I switched my job as a design engineer to a lecturer was the opportunity to wear and show off my collection of cool cooton sarees hehehehehe !!!
Now being in Sydney.....as much as I prefer sarees over salwar kameez I have never been able to wear them even on rare occassions like visiting a temple or attending an indian concert/party because a) Sydney has a very windy weather totally unsuited for sarees and b) cant find someone who can stitch blouses for me and falls on the sarees !

Mine first was 'Aurgenza'! It was a lovely green with golden horizontal stripes all through but the bottom border was thicker golden. I wore it in the month of Feb. on a college fete. During those days 2 plats were in fashion with boat shaped sandles. I was feeling on top of the world in saree as if I have conquered the world by being able to carry my saree well. Our entire girls college turned out either in sarees or in bell-bottom with tight sweater tops. The show was the talk of the city for many days.

wearing a saree gives a special confidence to a young girl. Nowadays many girls wear saree for the first time on their wedding or engagement. I wish the tradition of flirting with sarees around 17 or 18 of age could return among our young women. We mothers/older sisters can influence our younger women to go through this beautiful ecstatic experience early in life.

What a wonderful article. I myself am more of a pants person, but wheneve I am in a saree - a feel feminine and beautiful. Your article captures the pleasure of wearing a saree beaurifully.

Can any one reccomend a place to buy beautiful silk fabric at reasonable prices? Also, I am in need of silk envelopes and wedding invitations . I am currently living in U.S. and am looking for sources in India for a traditinal wedding. Thanks

hi!!
i really enjoyed reading this article from two point of view. one from a growing up Indian girl's point of view and second from a buddng writer's point of view. I'm 22 and still a lil' far from this stage but the saree magic has already started hiting me. my first was a beautiful peacock blue colored plain south silk saree. it looked so royally rich with that eaqually beautiful golden silk blouse. Articles like this direct me and fire my passion for writing. Thanx a lot for this beautiful narration. I'll definitely make my mom and my sis read this one. And also my boss since we are into writing content for anything and everything.
